Predecessors The Predecessor dialog enables you to designate one or more phases or tasks that have a dependency relationship with the current phase or task. Supported predecessor types are: a). Finish-to-Start (FS). This means the succeeding task cannot start until the predecessor task is finished. b). Start-to-Start (SS). The succeeding task cannot start until the predecessor task starts. c). Finish-to-Finish (FF). The succeeding task cannot finish until the predecessor task finishes. d). Start-to-Finish (SF). The succeeding task cannot finish until the predecessor task starts. The predecessor dialog also allows the manager to specify lag times for the current task. This feature can be useful if the succeeding task will not start immediately on conclusion of the predecessor (for example, if a deliverable is provided to the client who has to review and respond before the next task begins). The “Edit task” form displays all predecessors for the task and lag times for each. The system calculates the start and finish dates of tasks based on the predecessors selected, lag times, and predecessor type, number of hours planned, percentage of user time allocated, and user/company schedules. To set your Predecessors: 1. Click on the "Projects" tab, and then on "All Projects." 2. Click on the name of the Project, and then on the "Edit tasks/phases" link. 3. Click on the the name of the phase or task for which you want to set one or more predecessors. (Note: Phases are distinguished from tasks by the use of boldface type.) 4. In the "New [phase/task]" or "Edit [phase/task]" form, click on the "Create" (or "Edit") button adjacent to "Predecessors" just under the "Notes" field. 5. Use the "Predecessor options" dialog, select tasks or phases, enter lag time (in days), and the predecessor type. Lag time may be entered either as a positive or negative number. A different lag time may be specified for each predecessor task. 6. When you have finished making your selections, click on "OK." You will then return to the "New..." or "Edit..." dialog. 7. If you have finished entering information in the "New..." or "Edit..." dialog, click on "Save" (or, in a "New..." dialog, you can choose to click on "Save & create another phase/task"). The predecessor information is displayed in small print under the "Predecessor > Create/Edit" link. |
